Configure Your Nokia to Receive Email From Your Mail Server

Provides Over The Air synchronization to wireless devices such as Nokia E Series with Nokia “Mail for Exchange” software installed. The lastest version can be down loaded @ businesssoftware.nokia.com/mail_for_exchange_downloads.php

Enables end users to synchronize Personal Information Manager (PIM) data such as email, contacts, events and tasks, on devices running Microsoft Windows Mobile OS 5.X / 6.X to a server-based information store.

Compatible with NOKIA E50, E60, E61, E62 & E70 mobile devices / phones.

On your Nokia E Series Mobile Device, press the MENU key, to access applications screen.

-Select INSTALLATIONS.

-Open MAIL LAUNCHERS icon.

-On the INSTALLATIONS Screen, select MAIL FOR EXCHANGE and install it.

-Create a synchronization profile that controls what and when you synchronize.

Under CONNECTIONS settings;

-Enter Exchange Server details, eg: “mail.fastmetrics.com”.

-Enter Internet access point your mobile phone will use to connect with the mail server.

Under CREDENTIALS tab;

-Set the Credentials that ID the account to the server;

-Username.

-Password.

-Domain.

Under SYNC CONTENT SETTINGS;

-Select what to synchronize;

-Email.

-Contacts.

-Calendar or tasks.

-Plus what to do in case of content conflicts.

Synchronization occurs according to the profile created.

-MANUAL- Must select option > SYCHRONIZE to get content for the first time.

-ALWAYS ON – First synchronization occurs when profile saved.

You are done! Enjoy e-mail and other personal information on your Nokia E Series phone, synced directly from your mail server.

How to Setup a Simple Web Server in Leopard Or Snow Leopard

Hello, Today I’m going to give a brief overview of how to setup the web server in OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard. Both of these operating systems come pre-installed with the Apache web server. There are many options that you can configure along the way. This document will assume that you at least have a basic understanding of the OS.

Step 1: Create the new directory that our web server will read files from.

In OS X open Finder and navigate to your user directory. It will be labeled the same as the user name that you use to login to your machine. Once your are in your user directory look for a folder called sites. Right click (Option Click) on the sites folder and select Copy. Next, navigate to the root directory of your hard drive. Find your hard drive under Devices in Finder and Paste the Sites folder here. Now your Sites folder should have a path of “/Sites” without the quotations.

**I recommend using TextWrangler for the next step** It will make your life easy it can be found using Google and is free**

Step 2: Now we need to point Apache to the new directory path.

From Finder click on “Go” in your top menu bar and select “Go To Folder” Type in this path: /private/etc/Apache2/

Here you will find a file title “httpd.conf” this is the main Apache configuration file and it is here that we will be changing the path to out new folder. Copy this file and save a backup in another folder. Open up this document and look for a line labeled “Document Root”

Change the path for document root to “/Sites” Several lines below document root you will find another line “Directory” Change the path of this directory to “/Sites” as well. Save your file, TextWrangler will request you type in your password.

Step 3: Apache is now properly configured and all we need to do is fire it up!

Navigate to System Preferences->Sharing and click the check box next to “Web Sharing”

You will see that web sharing has been enabled. You will also see your machines IP address in this box.

Open up your favorite web browser and type in the IP address that was give or type in http:/ /localhost

A web page should appear titled “Your Website” If this is what you see that congratulations! You have successfully setup your own personal web server. If not read back through the directions and see what you may have missed.

Now you are ready to edit /Sites/Index.html to your liking or copy your already created website to the /Sites folder.

The built in web server in OS X is highly configurable can be used to host nearly any kind of website. Look for my next article detailing how to setup multiple web servers using Leopard or Snow Leopard.

Advantages of 208V Versus 110V Power in Server Racks

No matter the number of server racks you manage, we have all seen an increase in equipment density over the past few years. This growth has caused many to overload their 110v circuits, required additional circuits be added or even additional racks. For small to mid size data centers and IDF rooms, there are advantages to using high voltage (208V) power over the standard North American low voltage 110V power. Compared to 110V power, 208V circuits allow you to nearly double the amount of equipment on an electrical circuit, increasing your equipment capacity. 208V power can even reduce your total power consumption, saving both money and the environment.

Almost all equipment today is manufactured with universal power supplies. These power supplies recognize the input voltage and adjust accordingly. However, the number of watts required to operate the device remains static. Using Ohms Law, in a very simplistic form, watts = voltage x amperes, devices running at 200 watts would require 1.8 amps at 110V, while that same piece of equipment would only use 0.96 amps on 208V power. A 20A circuit loaded to the derated maximum, 16A, would allow for 8-9 devices operating at 110V, but a similar 20A circuit operating at 208V would accommodate 16-17 of the same devices. This effectively doubles the potential equipment density.

In a raised floor environment, this will allow you to operate with fewer power whips under the floor. Fewer whips translate to fewer circuits to manage, and reduced clutter below the floor, which improves airflow. This improved airflow lowers the cost of cooling the environment and lengthens the life your servers and air cooling equipment. Considering each watt of power used to operate your equipment requires nearly a watt of cooling energy, the improvement is significant.

Operating at 208V also improves the efficiency of the power supplies themselves. 110V AC power consists of a single live line and a neutral line with the voltage oscillating in wave form. In contrast, 208V power is created by two live lines. (see below) The two phases of 208V are offset 120o, so that they are never at 0 volts at the same time. This allows the power supply to operate more efficiently, and can create a power savings of 4-6%.

High voltage 208V power may not always be an option in the environment you work in. And retrofitting your entire center would be expensive. However, the additional rack density, improved cooling and airflow, and 4-6% power savings should make 208V an option worthy of consideration where available. As always, check your equipment to ensure correct operating specs and check with your electrician and/or facilities manager for code requirements.
